Thailand has introduced major changes to its visa rules, making the country's entry requirements an important consideration for travelers planning longer holidays.
Under rules introduced in September 2026, visa free stays for travelers from dozens of countries have been reduced from 60 days to 30 days.
The change could have a particularly significant impact on long stay tourists, remote workers and travelers spending several weeks exploring Thailand.
Visitors planning a short holiday are less likely to be affected, but anyone intending to remain in the country for more than 30 days should check which visa option applies to their nationality before departure.
Thailand remains one of Asia's biggest tourism destinations, attracting millions of visitors to Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Koh Samui and other destinations.
The new rules highlight why travelers should verify entry requirements before booking flights, especially as visa policies can change with relatively little notice.
Passport validity requirements and onward travel documentation should also be checked before departure.
Travelers should use official immigration or government information for their nationality before making final travel arrangements.
