The largest popular festival in the world has ended with historical figures. Millions of tourists visited Munich as beer consumption, holiday activities, and atmosphere turned Oktoberfest 2026 into one of the greatest tourist events of the year.

Oktoberfest 2026 has entered history. The traditional German festival, organised in Munich from 19 September to 4 October, has recorded some 7.4 million visitors, setting new turnout records.

According to official data published by Munich City Hall, the number of visitors increased significantly compared to 2025, when the festival had attracted about 6.5 million people.

That means about 900 thousand more people visited the festival this year.

Millions of liters of beer and thousands of international tourists

Organisers reported that during the 16 days of the festival, some 6.7 million liters of beer have been consumed.

According to the official view of Oktoberfest.de, visitors also enjoyed traditional Hindu foods, music and numerous fun activities.

A significant part of international tourists came from the United States, Italy and Austria.

Interestingly, non-alcohol beer consumption increased by about 10% compared to last year, according to Munich authorities.

Why does Oktoberfest continue to attract millions of people?

Oktoberfest is not just a beer festival. It has become a symbol of the Bahvarese culture and an international tourist attraction.

The festival's history begins in 1810 when celebrations were organized in Munich for the marriage of Prince Ludwig to Princess Theresa.

Over two centuries later, tradition continues to draw visitors from around the world.

Traditional bavarese costumes, giant music, food and tents are among the festival's most characteristic elements.

A Record Not Reached Without Challenges

Despite success, organisers also reported incidents and challenges during the festival.

According to Oktoberfest.de final preliminary report, security and emergency services registered a slight increase in interventions.

The festival was also shocked by the death of an employee in a work accident.

However, authorities estimated that managing the influx of visitors worked well and there were no situations of uncontrolled overcrowding.

When is Oktoberfest 2027 organised?

For tourists wishing to experience the festival next year, the dates have already been published.

According to Munich's official tourist platform, Oktoberfest 2027 will be held from September 18th to October 3rd.

With this year's record, the festival is expected to remain one of Europe's most important tourist attractions.

For international visitors, early accommodation booking and travel planning may be crucial to avoiding high prices during the festival period.
