During China's week-long national holiday, Australia was among the popular holiday destinations, with increased interest in independent travel and smaller groups.

Australia is drawing the attention of Chinese tourists, who are increasingly oriented towards longer travel and experiences that enable them to discover destinations at their own pace.

According to the ABC News report, Australia was among the most popular destinations during the China National Festival, which lasted from October 1st to October 7th 2026.

Data from a booking platform showed interest in more remote travel beyond traditional regional destinations. Tourist agents also noted a growing interest in smaller groups and car trips instead of large organised shifts.

This change shows that many travelers are seeking flexibility and more personal experiences during their holidays.

For the Australian tourism industry, this interest provides an opportunity to attract more international visitors and promote the country's cities, nature and attractions.
