Coffee lovers across the United States had plenty of reasons to celebrate on September 29 as National Coffee Day 2026 brought a wave of free drinks, major discounts and limited offers from some of the country’s biggest coffee and restaurant chains.
From free Dunkin’ coffee to a cup at Peet’s for just 25 cents, businesses competed for customers with promotions that ranged from straightforward freebies to special drinks and coffee themed treats.
Most National Coffee Day deals were available only on September 29, although several promotions continue beyond the celebration.
Here are some of the biggest National Coffee Day 2026 deals consumers could claim.
Dunkin’ offered free coffee
Dunkin’ gave Rewards members a free medium hot or iced coffee with any purchase made through the Dunkin’ app at participating restaurants nationwide.
The promotion excluded cold brew and hot espresso drinks.
Dunkin’ also used National Coffee Day to launch its collaboration with outdoor retailer L.L.Bean, featuring limited merchandise including a Birdseye Sweater and the L.L.Bean x Dunkin’ Boat and Tote.
The company also distributed complimentary coffee and other products during a special event at the L.L.Bean Seaport store in Boston.
Krispy Kreme combined free coffee with doughnuts
Krispy Kreme offered customers a free small or medium hot or iced coffee with any purchase at participating US stores on September 29.
The chain went further by creating an Original Glazed Coffee Flavored Doughnut specifically for the occasion.
Customers purchasing a regularly priced dozen could also get a dozen Original Glazed Coffee Flavored or Original Glazed doughnuts for $5.
That promotion ran from September 26 through September 29.
Peet’s brought back a 1966 coffee price
One of the most eye catching National Coffee Day offers came from Peet’s Coffee.
The company celebrated both National Coffee Day and its 60th anniversary by selling medium drip coffee for just 25 cents, reflecting the price associated with the year Peet’s was founded in 1966.
Peet’s also offered 25 percent off online purchases and promoted a 30 day Cold Brew Pass for rewards members.
For consumers accustomed to paying several dollars for a coffee, the 25 cent promotion represented one of the day's most dramatic discounts.
Starbucks launched a new drink
Starbucks took a different approach.
Rather than making a free coffee promotion the center of its National Coffee Day campaign, Starbucks introduced a new beverage called the Aerocano.
The drink uses Starbucks Blonde Espresso that is air whipped to create a foamy texture and cascading appearance.
Starbucks also introduced three mini pies in Apple Crumble, Pumpkin and Pecan flavors.
Tim Hortons gave away free coffee
Tim Hortons had one of the simplest offers of the day.
Customers could claim a free coffee of any size on September 29 with no purchase required after activating the offer through the Tim Hortons app.
Customers could also add flavor options including vanilla, mocha and caramel.
Circle K joined the free coffee rush
Circle K also gave customers an opportunity to pick up coffee without paying for the drink.
Inner Circle Rewards members could redeem a free medium hot or iced coffee through the company's app at participating locations.
The promotion added another major convenience store chain to a growing list of businesses using National Coffee Day as a way to attract customers into stores and loyalty programs.
7 Eleven dropped coffee to $1.49
Customers looking for another inexpensive option could turn to 7 Eleven.
Members of 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards could purchase a large coffee for $1.49.
The promotion covered hot and iced options, while participating customers could also purchase selected mini doughnuts for $1.
Whataburger offered free coffee without a purchase
Whataburger joined the National Coffee Day celebration despite being better known for burgers.
Participating locations offered customers a free coffee without requiring another purchase, making it one of the more straightforward promotions available during the day.
Scooter’s Coffee started celebrating early
Scooter’s Coffee extended its promotion across several days.
From September 27 through September 29, customers using the Scooter’s Coffee mobile app could receive a free medium brewed coffee once per day.
Available options included the company's medium roast Scooter’s Blend, Flavor of the Day and dark roast.
No additional purchase was required for the app promotion.
Some National Coffee Day deals are still available
Although National Coffee Day itself was September 29, not every promotion disappeared at midnight.
Stop & Shop is offering rewards members a free 48 ounce bottle of its ready to drink cold brew through October 1, according to People.
Dairy Queen's promotion lasts considerably longer. Participating locations are offering small Coffee Coolers for $3 through November 1, with Oreo, Salted Caramel and Toasted Marshmallow among the available flavors.
Luckin Coffee also extended its promotion through September 30, offering a free drink coupon to customers who refer a friend, while new customers can receive promotional pricing and another free drink coupon.
That means some consumers still have opportunities to benefit even after National Coffee Day has ended.
Why National Coffee Day has become big business
National Coffee Day is increasingly more than an informal celebration for coffee drinkers.
For major chains, free coffee can serve as a way to bring customers into stores, encourage app downloads and attract people to loyalty programs.
Many of the biggest offers this year required customers to be rewards members or redeem promotions through company apps.
Dunkin’, Circle K, Paris Baguette and several other businesses tied their National Coffee Day promotions directly to loyalty programs.
The coffee may be free, but the customer relationship can potentially continue long after the promotion ends.
And with some deals extending into October and even November, National Coffee Day 2026 is not completely over yet.
