Airlines are offering additional flexibility as the powerful storm moves south of Japan.

Travelers heading to Japan are being advised to monitor their flights as Typhoon Surigae moves through the region.

The storm remains powerful but is expected to pass south of Honshu and near the Izu Islands rather than directly striking Tokyo, according to Travel Monitor.

The system has been producing sustained winds of around 165 kilometers per hour, although forecasts indicate that it should weaken.

Some airlines have already introduced additional flexibility for passengers.

WestJet issued an advisory covering Narita services, while All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines have offered rebooking flexibility as a precaution.

The situation is particularly important for international visitors arriving through Tokyo because tropical weather can cause flight delays even when the main storm remains offshore.

Rail and ferry services can also be affected when strong winds and heavy rain reach coastal areas.

Travelers should therefore check both their international flight and any domestic connections before departure.

Japan remains open to travelers, and the current forecast does not indicate a direct strike on Tokyo. However, tropical systems can change direction and intensity quickly.

Passengers travelling over the next several days should continue checking official airline information and local weather alerts.
