Qantas and Jetstar are preparing a major expansion into Indonesia, with three new nonstop routes planned as demand for travel to Bali and Jakarta continues to grow.
The Qantas Group has applied to Australia's International Air Services Commission for an additional 4,539 seats per week in each direction between Australia and Indonesia. The application is currently under consideration.
If approved, one of the first additions will be a new daily Qantas service from Perth to Jakarta, scheduled to begin on December 14, 2026.
Jetstar is also planning a daily Western Sydney to Bali service from March 15, 2027, creating another direct connection to one of Australia's most popular international holiday destinations.
A third new route would connect Brisbane directly with Bali, with daily Qantas flights expected to begin on August 1, 2027.
Qantas also plans to expand its existing Melbourne to Jakarta operation. Executive Traveller reports that the service is expected to increase to four weekly flights in March 2027 before eventually becoming daily later that year.
The expansion follows an updated aviation agreement between Australia and Indonesia that provides thousands of additional weekly seats between the two countries.
Bali is particularly important to the Australian travel market. More than 1.6 million Australians visited the Indonesian island during 2025, according to Executive Traveller.
The proposed expansion could mean greater choice and competition for travelers heading to Indonesia, while Jakarta would gain stronger direct links with major Australian cities.
Google searches for the new Qantas and Jetstar Indonesia routes are now rising sharply, reflecting strong interest from travelers looking ahead to the new services.
