The German luxury brand is preparing an even larger flagship SUV for the US market.

BMW is preparing to expand its luxury SUV lineup with a new model positioned above the X7.

The plan was confirmed as part of BMW's latest global strategy update.

According to Reuters, the new luxury SUV will form part of BMW's effort to strengthen its position in the United States, where large premium SUVs remain particularly important.

The X7 currently sits at the top of BMW's conventional SUV lineup, meaning a vehicle positioned above it could push the company into an even more exclusive segment.

BMW has not yet revealed full specifications, pricing or a final production name for the vehicle.

The announcement nevertheless provides a clear indication of where the manufacturer sees additional growth opportunities.

Large SUVs generate significant revenue for premium automakers, particularly in North America and parts of the Middle East.

BMW's Spartanburg manufacturing operation in South Carolina already plays a major role in the company's global SUV production.

The future model will arrive as BMW simultaneously expands its electric vehicle portfolio and introduces new technology based on the Neue Klasse generation.
