Czech vehicle manufacturer Skoda has launched a major withdrawal action involving some 1.72 million vehicles worldwide because of a technical problem in the management system that could endanger the safety of drivers and passengers.
According to the German magazine CHIP, referring to the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), 370 thousand vehicles are potentially affected in Germany alone.
The models involved are Skoda Octavia, Superb, Karoq and Kodaq, produced during the period from November 2015 to August 2026.
The problem is linked to a screw in the guidance system, which can be damaged by corruption and, in certain cases, broken. Such a defect could cause loss of steering, significantly increasing the risk of accidents.
According to data released by the KBA, the technical solution envisions replacing the existing visa with another more resistant to corruption.
However, the CPIP reports that there is currently lack of necessary parts for repair, which could affect the duration of the withdrawal process.
The event is registered with an official number of 17091R, while the internal code of Skoda is 48LS.
The owners of these models' vehicles are advised to contact authorized services to check whether their vehicle is involved in the action. The control can be made through the identification number of vehicle (VIN), as not every car produced during the period mentioned is necessarily affected.
According to the German car ADAC, owners of affected vehicles will be announced by the manufacturer and the intervention in eliminating the defect is free of charge.
Skoda is not the only mark of the Volkswagen group facing this problem. The last days have reported similar attractions for millions of Volkswagen, Audi, and Seat brands vehicles.
According to the German agency dpa, the problem was identified during internal quality checks in the Volkswagen group, prompting preventive measures on some of its brands.
The withdrawal action was made public on October 2nd, while new German media reports on October 13th have turned to technical danger and affected vehicles.
