Automotive sales during the third quarter of 2026 have highlighted significant changes in the global car market. Several manufacturers recorded strong results, while some electric models experienced substantial declines.
Kia reported a record third quarter in the United States, with 236,659 vehicles sold, an increase of 8% compared with the same period a year earlier. Hyundai also recorded a strong quarter, with sales increasing by 3%.
Several individual models also performed strongly. The Chevrolet Corvette recorded a 29% increase, while the Ram 1500 climbed 73%. BMW's 3-Series also recorded a significant sales increase.
At the same time, some electric vehicles experienced weaker demand. The Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and Kia EV9 all recorded declines of more than 28% during the quarter according to recent sales reporting.
Ford also saw overall sales decline by 6%, while the Mustang Mach-E experienced a particularly large decrease compared with the previous year.
The figures highlight the complicated state of the automotive market in 2026. Traditional petrol-powered vehicles, hybrids and selected models continue to attract strong demand, while some EVs face challenges connected to pricing, incentives and consumer demand.
Automakers are therefore adjusting their strategies and balancing investments in electric technology with continued development of hybrid and combustion-engine vehicles.
