Weather Today: Sunshine, Storms and a Big Temperature Split

Saturday, October 3 brings mild autumn weather to much of Europe and North America, while southeastern Australia faces a very different picture with heavy rain and potentially severe thunderstorms.

Weather conditions across major global cities are sharply divided today, with pleasant autumn temperatures across large parts of Europe and Canada contrasting with stormier conditions in Australia.

London, Paris and much of central Europe are heading into a relatively mild Saturday, while Sydney and surrounding areas face showers and thunderstorms that could become severe.

London Stays Surprisingly Mild

London is enjoying another mild October day, with temperatures expected to reach around 21°C to 23°C.

The Met Office forecasts mostly dry conditions, with cloud breaking at times and occasional brighter spells. Temperatures remain above what many people would expect for early October.

Across the wider United Kingdom, conditions vary.

Much of England and Wales should see sunshine or bright spells, while northwest Scotland remains wetter. Temperatures include around 18°C in Cardiff, 17°C in Birmingham, 16°C in Liverpool and 15°C in Belfast.

Sunday could become even warmer in London, with a maximum around 23°C expected.

Paris Heads Above 20°C

Paris is also experiencing pleasant early October weather.

Temperatures are forecast to rise from around 10°C during the morning to approximately 21.5°C, with no significant rainfall expected during the day.

Winds should remain relatively light, making Saturday particularly comfortable across the French capital.

Southern France has a less settled outlook, however, with some areas facing showers that could become heavy.

Germany Gets a Mostly Sunny Saturday

Germany is among the European countries benefiting from settled weather today.

High pressure is helping produce sunshine across Germany, Poland, the Netherlands and several parts of central Europe.

Austria, Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary are also expected to experience generally sunny conditions.

The picture becomes more unsettled farther southwest.

Parts of Spain and Portugal could see developing showers, while southern France also faces the possibility of heavier rainfall.

Toronto Gets a Cool but Pleasant Day

Across the Atlantic, Toronto starts Saturday on the chilly side.

Environment Canada recorded temperatures around 10°C during the early hours, with the city forecast to reach approximately 18°C later in the day.

A mixture of sunshine and cloud is expected before skies clear during the afternoon.

Sunday should become warmer, with Toronto forecast to reach around 20°C, although showers may return.

Sydney Faces a Stormy Saturday

Australia has one of today's most significant weather stories.

Sydney and parts of southeastern Australia face rain and thunderstorms as a large area of unsettled weather affects the region.

The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts temperatures around 24°C in parts of the Sydney area, with a high chance of showers. Thunderstorms are also likely, and storms in western areas could become severe, bringing damaging winds and large hail.

The wider weather system has already raised concerns across southeastern Australia, particularly Victoria, where substantial rainfall has been forecast.

Europe Mostly Mild, but Not Everywhere

Much of central and northern Europe should experience relatively calm weather today.

Germany, Poland, Austria and neighboring countries are generally favored for sunshine, while conditions become less stable toward Spain and southern France.

Parts of Greece, especially Crete, could experience heavier showers with localized flooding possible.

For millions of people across Europe, however, the first Saturday of October will feel considerably milder than the calendar might suggest.

The biggest contrast comes thousands of kilometers away in Australia, where umbrellas and storm warnings are replacing the sunshine enjoyed across much of Europe.
