A drone attack in the Sudan state of Blue Nile has caused at least 40 casualties, according to recent reports. The event comes at a time when the country continues to face armed conflict and a serious humanitarian crisis.

At least 40 people have lost their lives in a fearful attack in the Sudan Blue Nile state, according to the Associated Press report on October 10th. Children are reported to be found among the victims.

The Sudanese Organisation Emergency Lawers has attributed the attack to Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary forces. The responsibility and full circumstances of the incident should be assessed through further independent investigations.

Sudan has been involved in a bloody war since 2023, when clashes broke out between RSF and the Sudanese Army. The conflict has triggered the displacement of millions of people and seriously damaged basic services, including health care and food supplies.

Humanitarian organisations have repeatedly warned of difficulties in sending relief supplies to areas affected by fighting. Attacks on civilians and barriers to humanitarian access make protecting the population even more difficult.

The recent event turns international attention to the need for civil protection and diplomatic efforts to end the conflict. A sustainable solution would require lowering violence, safer access to aid and restarting negotiations.
