World Space Week is being celebrated globally from October 4–10, 2026. This year’s theme is “Rocket Revolution.” The focus is on how rocket technology is rapidly changing. Reusable rockets and commercial launch companies are expanding access to space. The celebration highlights the growing importance of space science and technology.

World Space Week 2026 is attracting global attention as people around the world celebrate advances in space science, technology and exploration. The United Nations officially recognizes World Space Week every year from October 4 to October 10, with events taking place across different countries.

This year’s theme, “Rocket Revolution,” focuses on the rapid transformation of rocket and launch technology. Space launches were once dominated by a small number of government space programs, but the industry has changed significantly. Commercial companies, reusable launch vehicles, universities, startups and new national space programs are now playing a larger role in the development of space technology.

One of the biggest changes has been the development of reusable rockets. Reusing major parts of launch vehicles can help reduce the cost and increase the frequency of launches, potentially making access to orbit more available to organizations that previously could not afford it.

World Space Week also provides an opportunity to educate younger generations about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Schools, museums, astronomy clubs and space organizations are hosting activities designed to encourage interest in space exploration. The World Space Week Association says the celebration has grown into a major global event, with tens of thousands of activities taking place internationally.

The dates of the celebration also have historical significance. October 4 marks the anniversary of the launch of Sputnik 1 in 1957, the first human-made satellite to orbit Earth. October 10 marks the anniversary of the Outer Space Treaty entering into force in 1967, an important milestone in international space cooperation.

As rocket technology continues to develop, the future of space exploration could become increasingly accessible. World Space Week 2026 therefore serves not only as a celebration of past achievements, but also as a look toward a future in which more countries, organizations and people can participate in space exploration.
