Saudi Arabia is facing a fresh escalation of missile and drone attacks from Yemen's Houthis, with air defenses intercepting multiple threats aimed at cities in the south of the kingdom.
The latest incidents have pushed searches for “Saudi Arabia” sharply higher as regional tensions continue to intensify.
According to Saudi authorities, air defenses intercepted three ballistic missiles targeting Khamis Mushait in the Asir region on Friday. Four Houthi drones were also intercepted.
In a separate incident, another ballistic missile was intercepted over Ahad Rafidah in Asir. Falling debris injured an Asian resident and damaged a prayer room inside a building as well as several vehicles, Saudi Civil Defense said.
Najran was also affected by the latest violence. Saudi authorities said a Houthi projectile struck a school, causing material damage but no reported casualties.
The attacks follow another major interception operation earlier this week. Saudi led coalition forces said they destroyed four drones and two ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis. Four drones and one missile were intercepted over Khamis Mushait, while another missile was intercepted over Jazan.
The escalating confrontation is increasingly affecting civilian areas and infrastructure.
Saudi Arabia has accused the Houthis of repeatedly targeting cities, power facilities and other infrastructure in recent weeks. The Houthis, meanwhile, say Saudi forces have dramatically increased strikes against areas under their control in Yemen.
Adding to concerns on Saturday, Reuters reported that a large plume of smoke and fire was seen near a Saudi Aramco facility in Riyadh. At the time of the report, Saudi authorities had not confirmed the cause and there was no immediate claim of responsibility, meaning it remains unclear whether the fire was connected to the ongoing attacks.
The developments come amid broader tensions across the Middle East, with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also warning the United States that it is prepared for a stronger response to any new attack, while Washington continues reinforcing its military presence in the region.
For Saudi Arabia, the immediate concern remains the growing frequency of missiles and drones reaching its territory.
Although air defenses have intercepted many of the incoming threats, the latest injury and damage demonstrate that falling debris alone can pose a serious danger to civilians on the ground.
