The traditional prayer is being recited at the Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Pompeii, bringing together worshippers in the city and people following the ceremony from home.
The celebration includes Mass followed by the solemn Supplication at noon.
Why This Prayer Matters
The Supplication was written in 1883 by Bartolo Longo, the founder of the Pompeii sanctuary and a central figure in devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary.
Catholics traditionally recite the prayer twice each year, on May 8 and on the first Sunday of October.
This year's celebration also focuses on messages of peace, faith and solidarity, while honoring the religious legacy of Bartolo Longo.
For believers across Italy and beyond, the Pompeii prayer remains one of the most recognizable Marian traditions of the year.
