The global economy is facing a combination of risks that could affect economic growth, financial markets and citizens' standard of living. International Monetary Fund Manager Kristalina Georgieva has warned that high energy prices, public debt and rapid artificial intelligence development require special attention from governments.
According to the IMF warning, geopolitical conflicts are affecting energy supply and increasing pressure on prices. When oil and energy are expensive, transportation, production, and distribution costs increase.
Another concern is increasing public debt. Countries that must pay higher interest may have less financial space for investments in education, health and infrastructure.
Meanwhile, artificial intelligence can increase productivity and create new economic opportunities, but large investments and high market expectations also pose risks if the benefits are not realised in time.
The IMF urges governments to strengthen financial stability, invest in professional skills and ensure a technological development that brings wider benefits to society.
