France is preparing for a significant change in the weather as rain and thunderstorms return to parts of the country on Tuesday, October 6.
Météo France says rain will continue across parts of the Mediterranean from the morning, with conditions expected to become increasingly unsettled as the day progresses. The Languedoc region is among the areas where rainfall is forecast to intensify during the afternoon and evening.
The situation could become more serious during the night from Tuesday into Wednesday, when heavier rainfall is expected around the Mediterranean. Météo France says significant amounts of rain could fall within relatively short periods.
Western France will also begin to see a deterioration in conditions on Tuesday afternoon. Showers, some potentially accompanied by thunderstorms, are forecast to arrive from the Atlantic before gradually moving northeast overnight.
Despite the approaching bad weather, Tuesday will remain unusually warm across many areas. Afternoon temperatures could still reach around 25°C to 28°C in numerous regions, according to Météo France.
The bigger change is expected Wednesday.
A low pressure system is forecast to cross France, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms to much of the country. The strongest rainfall is currently expected in southern areas, particularly around the Cévennes, eastern Languedoc and Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur.
Temperatures are then expected to fall sharply. TF1 reports that the current unusually warm conditions will give way to much cooler weather from Wednesday, while Météo France expects temperatures to fall below seasonal averages across much of France by Thursday.
Residents and travelers in affected regions should continue checking the latest official forecasts and weather warnings as conditions develop.
