Intelligent phone safety has been brought to focus after an international contest where researchers managed to exploit weaknesses in some of the market's most advanced devices.
According to SecurityWeek, three teams of researchers demonstrated successful attacks against Google Pixel 10 during the PWOWn Ireland 2026 event, together winning rewards that exceeded $560 thousand.
The competition, organised in Ireland, enables specialists to test the safety of equipment and systems through the use of technical weaknesses.
One of the most important demonstrations was implemented by the Ikotas Labs team, which won the $300 thousand reward after combining some weaknesses to compromise a remote Pixel phone.
According to Security Week, other researchers received awards for additional demonstrations, though some of the methods included weaknesses that were previously identified.
BleepingComputer reports that during the entire Pwn2OWn Ireland 2026 competition, more than $1.26m in awards for demonstrating 98 security weaknesses of the zero-day category were distributed.
Among the targets were intelligent phones, printers, smart housing equipment, and other technological systems.
Samsung Galaxy S26 was also involved in security tests, where researchers demonstrated various methods of attack.
However, these results do not imply that Pixel 10 or Galaxy S26 phones have been compromised in mass or that ordinary users are currently victims of such attacks.
Tests were conducted under controlled conditions aimed at identifying weaknesses and reporting producers.
In the cyber security industry, competitions such as PW2Wn are considered important mechanisms for uncovering problems before they are widely exploited by criminals.
Producers usually receive technical information on identified weaknesses and have the opportunity to prepare security updates.
For Android phone users, development is a reminder of the importance of installing system updates and applications.
Experts also recommend avoiding applications from unknown sources and using additional account protection mechanisms.
The results of the contest show that modern equipment, equipped with advanced security systems, can also contain weaknesses that require correction.
For Google, Samsung and other producers, the challenge remains the continued improvement in the protection of equipment, while cyber attacks become increasingly complex.
