Google is facing a massive legal challenge in Britain as a consumer lawsuit worth more than £1 billion reaches court.
The case alleges that Google abused the market position of its Play Store by charging developers commissions of up to 30 percent on apps, subscriptions and purchases made inside apps.
Reuters reports that the lawsuit is being brought on behalf of approximately 20 million consumers who purchased apps or made related payments between 2015 and July 2026.
The claim argues that developers ultimately passed those costs on to consumers through higher prices.
Google rejects the accusations.
The company argues that Android provides substantial consumer choice and says its fees are competitive.
The case is being heard by Britain's Competition Appeal Tribunal and joins a growing number of legal challenges targeting the business practices of major technology platforms.
The outcome could have implications for developers as well as millions of consumers who regularly spend money through mobile applications.
