Thousands of American payment platform users Cash App can receive money this month, after entering the distribution phase, a $15m court agreement.
According to USA Today, payments are expected to begin during October 2026 for customers who have submitted valid requests and have been approved for compensation.
The deal relates to a collective indictment against Cash App and its mother company, Block Inc., following security incidents affecting personal and financial records of customers.
In 2022, the company announced an incident in which a former employee had provided unauthorized access to customer information. Another incident was reported in 2023 when some accounts were compromised through redefined telephone numbers.
The plaintiffs claimed companies had not taken sufficient measures to protect data and deal with suspicious transactions. Cash App and Block rejected the claims and rejected legal responsibility.
According to the official page of the court agreement, the right to request compensation had current users and former users who had experienced unauthorized access to their accounts, theft of data or suspicious transactions during August 23rd 2018 to August 20, 2024.
The beneficiaries can receive up to $2,500 for documented expenditures directly related to incidents, including bank fees and other financial costs.
Also, the deal envisions compensation of up to $75 for time spent in solving problems, as well as reimbursement for specific losses from unauthorized transactions.
However, the $2,500 amount is not automatic payment for every user. Final compensation depends on documented damage, approval of demand and fund conditions.
One important detail is that the deadline for submitting requirements has ended on November 18th, 2024.
This means that those who have not applied before cannot submit new requirements for this agreement.
According to the fund manager's announcement, updated on September 28, 2026, review of requests and complaints has ended, while the distribution of payments for approved applicants is scheduled during October.
The Federal Court for the Northern District of California eventually approved the agreement on March 27, 2025.
Users that have applied can check payment updates on the official CashApp Security Site.com.
Financial security experts advise citizens to take care of misleading messages promising immediate compensation in exchange for bank data or preliminary payments.
The $15 million deal is separated from other legal procedures that have included Cash App in the United States.
For users who have waited nearly two years after the application deadline, October 2026 is expected to be the month when financial compensation will finally be distributed.
