Jenna Ortega is returning to Nevermore Academy, but Wednesday Season 3 will introduce several new characters who could make the school’s mysteries even darker.

Netflix has confirmed that production is underway near Dublin. Ortega will return as Wednesday Addams, alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez and other familiar members of the show’s cast.

The biggest new addition is Winona Ryder, whose previous work in Beetlejuice and Stranger Things makes her a natural fit for the gothic world created by Tim Burton.

Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan and Kennedy Moyer have also joined the cast. Netflix has not revealed full details about their characters, leaving fans to speculate about whether they will play new students, teachers or enemies.

Eva Green will appear as Ophelia, Morticia Addams’ long-lost sister. The character became an important part of the Season 2 cliffhanger after Wednesday discovered that Ophelia was being held inside Grandmama Hester’s mansion.

The show’s creators have suggested that Season 3 will explore buried Addams Family secrets while introducing new threats at Nevermore Academy. Tim Burton will also return as an executive producer and director.

Netflix shared the casting news through its official Wednesday Season 3 production announcement.

The streaming platform has not yet confirmed a release date. This means fans may have to wait before discovering why Ophelia disappeared and what her return means for Wednesday and Morticia.

The expectations are enormous. Netflix has described Wednesday as its most-viewed series, while the second season also became one of the platform’s biggest English-language releases.

Season 3 will need more than familiar gothic visuals to maintain that success. The expanding Addams Family story, Ryder’s arrival and Ophelia’s mystery may provide exactly what the show needs.
