The ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and broadcast live on ABC and Hulu. It will also be available in more than 200 territories worldwide.
O’Brien’s return gives the Academy a familiar figure ahead of its historic 100th ceremony in 2028. Producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan will also return, along with Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney.
The Academy confirmed the hosting and production team in its official announcement for the 99th Oscars.
The 2027 ceremony will honor films released during the 2026 calendar year. The submission process continues through the autumn, with shortlists scheduled to be announced on December 15, 2026.
Oscar nominations will be revealed on January 21, 2027. Final voting will take place between February 25 and March 4, before the ceremony on March 14.
One of the most significant rule changes affects the acting categories. Performers can now receive more than one nomination in the same acting category if multiple performances finish among the top five in voting.
This creates the possibility that an actor could compete against themselves for two different films. The Academy has also clarified that eligible acting performances must be credited and performed by humans with their consent.
Changes have also been introduced for the Casting award, allowing as many as three statuettes to be presented in the category.
The updated regulations and eligibility requirements are detailed in the Academy’s official 99th Oscars rules announcement.
The nominations are still months away, but the campaign season has already begun. With new rules, a returning host and the Academy approaching its 100th anniversary, the 2027 Oscars could become one of the most closely watched ceremonies in years.
