A celebrity feud that began on television more than three years ago has suddenly returned to the spotlight after Chet Hanks, the son of Hollywood star Tom Hanks, confronted comedian Eric André at ComplexCon in Los Angeles.
Video of the encounter has spread rapidly online and triggered renewed interest in the dispute. Searches for Chet Hanks are surging as viewers try to understand what happened between the two men and why their relationship became so hostile.
Footage shared by Hanks and reported by TMZ shows him approaching André from behind at the convention and placing a hand on his shoulder. André initially appears cordial, but the mood quickly changes when Hanks begins confronting him about comments made years earlier.
André appears confused during the exchange and can be heard asking what Hanks is talking about. Security eventually becomes involved, and André walks away while making a parting remark involving Tom Hanks. No physical fight is visible in the footage.
The confrontation was not a random celebrity encounter.
Their feud dates back to Chet Hanks’ appearance on “The Eric André Show” in 2023. André later accused Hanks of behaving dangerously during production, including riding a motorcycle around the set and nearly putting crew members at risk.
Hanks disputed André’s account. He argued that he understood the deliberately chaotic nature of the show and was simply attempting to match its energy. The two subsequently traded increasingly personal comments publicly.
The latest encounter appears to have given Hanks an opportunity to confront André directly.
In an Instagram post accompanying the footage, Hanks claimed André initially had no memory of publicly criticizing him. Hanks also alleged that André later raised concerns about his controversial use of a Jamaican accent and perceived mocking of Caribbean culture. Those claims represent Hanks’ version of the conversation and have not been independently established.
There is another detail making the encounter particularly striking.
In 2023, André publicly challenged Hanks to confront him face to face. More than three years later, the two finally crossed paths at ComplexCon.
The confrontation has now introduced their old feud to a much larger audience, including people who may know Chet primarily as the son of Tom Hanks rather than from his acting, music or television appearances.
And with footage of their uncomfortable reunion circulating online, a dispute that appeared to have faded years ago is suddenly very much alive again.
