Florian David Fitz has become a fast rising Google search in Germany on Saturday night as viewers tune in to the special edition of the popular ARD quiz show “Wer weiß denn sowas XXL.”
The program began at 8:15 p.m. on Das Erste and runs for more than three hours, until 11:25 p.m. According to ARD, host Kai Pflaume welcomes six celebrity guests for the special broadcast marking German Unity Day.
Fitz is competing against actress Karoline Herfurth in one of the evening's celebrity matchups. The two actors previously appeared together in the successful 2019 movie “Das perfekte Geheimnis.”
Their reunion comes shortly before the release of “Der perfekte Urlaub,” a follow up scheduled to arrive in German cinemas later in October, according to ARD.
The evening also features former swimming star Franziska van Almsick against decathlon world champion Leo Neugebauer, while actresses Katja Riemann and Barbara Wussow compete in another round.
Contestants compete alongside team captains Bernhard Hoëcker and Wotan Wilke Möhring, with the finalists getting the opportunity to play for €50,000 for charity.
Interest in Fitz accelerated sharply during the broadcast, with his name appearing among active Google Trends searches. The timing strongly corresponds with his prime time television appearance, as viewers search for information about the actor while watching the show.
The XXL special also serves as a major return for the quiz format ahead of its regular new season, which ARD says will begin on November 2.
