Yankees vs Red Sox in an Elimination Series? Baseball’s Biggest Rivalry Just Got Even More Intense

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are preparing to renew one of baseball’s most famous rivalries with a place in the next round of the MLB postseason at stake.

The two American League rivals will meet in a best-of-three Wild Card Series at Yankee Stadium. Unlike a long regular-season series, there is almost no margin for error: two victories are enough to advance, while two defeats will end a team’s season.

Game 1 is scheduled for September 29 at 8 p.m. ET. Game 2 will be played at the same time on September 30, while a decisive Game 3 would take place on October 1 if necessary.

The complete schedule is available through the official New York Yankees postseason announcement.

The Yankees enter the playoffs as the fourth seed and will have home-field advantage throughout the Wild Card Series. Boston, the fifth seed, must find a way to handle both the pressure of postseason baseball and the atmosphere at Yankee Stadium.

History will inevitably form part of the discussion. Yankees-Red Sox games are rarely treated as ordinary contests, and postseason meetings bring another level of intensity. Every pitching decision, defensive mistake and late-inning opportunity will receive enormous attention.

The matchup is also one of four Wild Card Series opening on September 29. Philadelphia travels to Atlanta, the Chicago White Sox visit Houston and the Chicago Cubs face San Diego. The full 12-team postseason bracket was confirmed on the final day of the regular season, according to MLB’s official playoff guide.

A short series can produce unpredictable results. One outstanding pitching performance or one dramatic home run could decide everything. When the Yankees and Red Sox are involved, the pressure—and the audience—will be even greater.
