Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma powered India to 211 for six against Pakistan in the Asian Games cricket final in Japan, leaving Hasan Nawaz and Pakistan facing a huge chase for gold.

India and Pakistan are battling for Asian Games cricket gold in one of the biggest matches of the tournament, with India setting Pakistan a target of 212 runs in the men's T20 final at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan.

India won the toss and chose to bat first, immediately putting Pakistan's bowlers under pressure. The decision produced a massive total as India's aggressive batting lineup reached 211 for six from 20 overs.

Abhishek Sharma Takes Control

Abhishek Sharma delivered the most explosive innings near the top of the order, scoring 61 from just 28 balls.

His innings included three fours and seven sixes, giving India early momentum even as Pakistan attempted to slow the scoring with wickets.

Young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi started aggressively with two sixes but was dismissed for 15. India continued attacking rather than allowing Pakistan to settle into the contest.

Tilak Varma Delivers Late

Pakistan managed to create openings during the middle overs, but India produced another acceleration late in the innings.

Tilak Varma finished unbeaten on 51 from 22 balls, while Shivam Dube added 27 from 15 deliveries. Their late partnership helped India surge to 211 for six, setting Pakistan a demanding 212 run target.

The total also represented India's highest T20 international score against Pakistan, according to reports covering the final.

Hasan Nawaz in Pakistan's Chase

Attention has now shifted to Pakistan's batting lineup, where Hasan Nawaz is among the players expected to play an important role in the chase.

Pakistan's XI includes captain Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat, Usman Khan, Saim Ayub, Hasan Nawaz and Abdul Samad, giving the team several attacking options.

Hasan Nawaz also played a role in Pakistan's route to the final. Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by six wickets in a rain affected semifinal, with Abdul Samad finishing unbeaten on 30 from 15 balls.

Gold Medal on the Line

The final carries added significance because India are defending the Asian Games men's cricket title they won at Hangzhou 2023.

Pakistan, meanwhile, are seeking their first Asian Games men's cricket gold medal. The rivalry arrived in Japan after India defeated Sri Lanka by 124 runs in the semifinal, while Pakistan overcame Bangladesh to secure the other place in the final.

With 212 required for victory, Pakistan face a major test against an Indian attack that includes Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi.

The India vs Pakistan Asian Games final is being played in the T20 international format, with the winner taking the men's cricket gold medal.
