Colorado State defensive coordinator Tyson Summers lost his play calling duties during Saturday's game against Oregon State, left the sideline, then was dismissed after a 56 to 26 defeat.

Colorado State made a dramatic coaching change before Saturday's game was even over.

Defensive coordinator Tyson Summers started the game calling the Rams defense. After Oregon State scored touchdowns on its first two possessions, head coach Jim Mora removed him from play calling duties.

Summers then left the sideline.

After the game, Mora confirmed that Summers was no longer part of the Colorado State program, according to ESPN and the Associated Press.

What Happened?

Oregon State jumped ahead 14 to 0 and continued dominating offensively.

The Beavers eventually defeated Colorado State 56 to 26, while the Rams fell to 2 and 3.

Mora said he removed Summers from play calling duties but did not instruct him to leave the sideline.

Co defensive coordinator Kenny McClendon took control of the defense, with cornerbacks coach Trent Matthews also involved in signaling calls.

Summers Is Out

The dismissal comes less than a year after Summers served as Colorado State's interim head coach for the final five games of the 2025 season.

Mora retained him as defensive coordinator after taking over the program.

Now his Colorado State tenure has ended in extraordinary fashion: removed as play caller during the game, gone from the sideline, then dismissed from the program hours later.

Colorado State has a bye before facing Texas State on October 15.
