Rani Khedira, brother of world champion with Germany Sami Khedira, played in World 2026 with Tunisia. History turned to attention after a question at “Weer Wird Millionär?”

A football question on the popular German show “Weer Wird Millionär?” has brought back to the spotlight the unusual history of the Sami brothers and Rani Khedira.

Abendzeitung München reports that contestant Hans-Werner Kraul faced a question worth 64,000 euros: whose brother from former German footballers had played at the 2026 World for another state?

Alternatives included Tony Croos, Sami Khedira, Jéróme Boateng and Mesut ãozil. The contestant decided not to risk it and left with 32 thousand euros. Then Günther Yauch discovered the answer: Sami Khadira.

His younger brother, Rani Khedira, represented Tunisia at the 2026 World Cup, though he was born in Stutgart and had previously played for German-era nationals.

Reuters reported in March that FIFA had formally approved the change of Rani Khedira's national. He had the right to play for Tunisia because of his father's origin.

Sportschau wrote that Rani had held 13 matches with Germany's youth teams, but had never played for the national A. In March 2026 he debuted for Tunisia and was later involved in the 26-player World Group.

History becomes even more interesting because of his brother's career. Sami Kedira won the 2014 World Cup with Germany and recorded 77 presentations with German nationals.

Rani followed another route 12 years later.

In an interview reported by Reuters during the World, Sami Khedira said she saw no problem with two brothers representing different countries. According to him, such cases reflect the reality of modern families of more than one country.

In World 2026, Rani represented his father's country of origin, while the name Kedira remains tied to German football history with Sam's triumph in Brazil in 2014.
